Two women killed as LASTMA chasing motorist ends in tragedy

Two female road sweepers lost their lives in a horrific accident that occurred on Gbagada Expressway in Lagos State on Monday morning [today].

The victims, who were employees of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), were hit by a speeding driver who was allegedly being pursued by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The reason for the chase is still unknown, but eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the sweepers who were doing their duty on the road. The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle somersaulted several times before coming to a halt.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly injured and taken to a nearby hospital, while the LASTMA officials fled the scene. The bodies of the deceased sweepers were covered with cloth and later taken away by an ambulance.

A video of the aftermath of the accident has been circulating on social media, showing the mangled vehicle and the lifeless bodies of the sweepers. The video has sparked outrage and condemnation from Nigerians who blamed the LASTMA officials for causing the avoidable tragedy.
