VIDEO: Why I chose Lagos for my current slack-line walk -GWR holder Jaan Roose

Estonian slackliner and Guinness World Record holder, Jaan Roose, on Thursday performed his trademark slack-lining walk from Sterling Towers in the Marina area of Lagos to the Onome Rig.

According to online platform Slackline U.S., slack-lining is a sport and art that can be a balance training, recreation, and a moving meditation. It is similar, at first glance, to tightrope walking, and is accomplished by stretching and tensioning a 1”– 2” wide length of nylon/polyester webbing between two anchor points, most often trees.

Known for taking on daring challenges, Roose has become a sensation in the world of extreme sports, gaining substantial following on various social media platforms.

Reports say he was recruited for the Lagos walk by Red Bull, which is trying to get what it describes as the ‘Perfect Lagos Selfie.’

Explaining the vision behind the effort on Instagram, Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says, “Red Bull is trying to get the Perfect Lagos Selfie with Jaan Roose from Sterling Towers, Marina Lagos, to the Onome Rig.

“This project is to showcase the beauty of Lagos State and the Red Bull team is working together with Lagos State Government through the Lagos Safety Commission.”

During a reception by the Lagos State Deputy governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Jaan Roose says coming to Lagos is a wonderful experience for him, and that he got the best view and angle of Lagos from that height.

Jaan also told the Deputy Governor that Lagos State is a very advanced city and spoke glowingly about the Lagos Blue Line Rail he saw while performing the act.

The Deputy Governor thanked Jaan for coming to Lagos and telling the world a very good story of the State.
