Lagos records rising incidents of husband assault

The Lagos State Government says it has received a staggering report of about 340 cases of husbands who suffered domestic violence in the hands of their wives in the past year.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

According to Vivour-Adeniyi, the 340 reported cases occurred between September 2022 and September 2023, expressing her apprehension about this emerging trend.

She stated that the agency is actively managing the cases, with the goal of reaching amicable resolutions.

Simultaneously, the LASG has taken action through the Joint Task Force on Implementation of the Executive Order on Safeguarding and Child Protection as an initiative aimed at doing comprehensive monitoring and assessment programme across the Six Educational Districts in the state.

Commencing on October 31, 2023, at the Lagos City College in Sabo, Yaba, the monitoring exercise has already engaged with over 200 schools in Educational Districts 4 and 5.

Moreover, over 90 schools have been visited to evaluate and ensure compliance with safeguarding and child protection measures within these districts, as disclosed by Vivour-Adeniyi.

She said the government remains committed to addressing and preventing domestic violence while also upkeeping the welfare of children in educational institutions.
