VIDEOS: Police plant weed in car, extort ₦810K, make refund after public outcry

The Police Command in Anambra State says it has launched a manhunt for a yet-to-be-identified officer who allegedly extorted the sum of N810,000 from a man.

The command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement.

According to a voice note by the victim and uploaded by Twitterati Harrison Gwamnishu via his verified X handle @HarrisonBbi18, four Police officers stopped a car owner in Upper Iweka, Anambra State; and while pretending to search his car, planted marijuana in it and then proceeded to force him to admit to a crime he didn’t commit.

To be allowed to go without the Police pressing charges, they allegedly extorted N810,000 from him.

Listen to the audio of the allegation:

After the allegation landed on social media, with Police authorities tagged to the audio, the man was contacted by an unstated set of people who duly returned the money illegally taken from him.
