Names of women were conspicuously missing in the list of principal officers the Senate released to the nation on Tuesday [today].
More troubling is the decline in the number of female lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly where, out of the 469 members, only 18 are women — three made it to the Senate and 15 in the House of Representatives
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, during the House plenary announced the names of eight lawmakers as Senate majority and minority leaders for the 10th Senate.
The majority leaders, who are four in number, emerged from the ruling All Progressives Congress, while the minority leaders emerged from various opposition parties.
