World Cancer Day: First Lady urges awareness, better treatment

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has joined the global commemoration of World Cancer Day (WCD), emphasizing the importance of cancer awareness and management.

In a press statement she signed, Senator Tinubu highlighted the significance of this year’s WCD, stating, “This presents an important opportunity to raise awareness and elaborate further on the message of prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.

“The theme for this year, ‘Closing the Gap,’ emphasizes the need to deepen our efforts in establishing necessary infrastructure to address these health challenges for better care of patients and survivors.”

The First Lady stressed the importance of collective support, stating, “No one should have to face the challenges of cancer alone. Let us continue to show empathy, care, love and support for cancer patients and survivors, while simultaneously creating more awareness and advocating for improved service delivery. Additionally, we should celebrate those who are cancer-free.”

She said her commitment to cancer awareness aligns with the global initiative to tackle the impact of cancer on individuals and communities, emphasizing the need for a collaborative effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure and support systems for cancer patients.
