13 inmates freed across Delta State correctional centres

Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Theresa Diai, has granted freedom to 13 inmates held across the five correctional centres in Delta State.

This decision followed a comprehensive review of 1,477 warrants spanning a three-week period across the state’s correctional facilities.

The released individuals faced charges ranging from membership of unlawful society to offenses such as robbery, attempted murder, and conspiracy.

Justice Diai clarified that the decision to release them was made based on the recommendation of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who asserted that the individuals had no case to answer.

During the last quarter correctional visit for the year at the Ogwashi-uku Correctional Centre, 358 warrants were scrutinized, leading to the release of eight inmates, namely Osita Dike, Obinna Blessed Onyekwelu, Jerome Sunday, Akighir Sekav, Claus Manasseh, Abdulrahman Idris, Albishamin Emmanuel, and Akilu Haladu.

Furthermore, at the Warri Correctional Centre, 502 warrants were reviewed, resulting in the release of three inmates, while at the Sapele Correctional Centre, 167 warrants were scrutinized, leading to the release of one inmate.
