17-year-old boy bags 14-year-jail in Ondo

The Ondo State High Court has sentenced a 17-year-old boy, Jibola Fakologbon, to 14-year-imprisonment.

Fakologbon was sentenced for assaulting and raping a student of Ero College of Education.

The convict was charged with assault and rape in December 2021 for his actions at Ero, via Igbara-Oke.

He forcefully touched the victim’s breast and engaged in sexual intercourse without her consent.

Despite pleading not guilty, Fakologbon was found guilty based on the prosecution’s evidence, which included testimonies from three witnesses and six exhibits.

The rape survivor testified that Fakologbon approached her, demanding money for food, but she refused.

He then proceeded to assault her and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

The court, led by Justice Yemi Fasanmi, concluded that the prosecution had proved the charges of indecent assault and rape beyond reasonable doubts.

Medical reports and other exhibits further supported the survivor’s testimony.

Justice Fasanmi emphasized the credibility of the evidence and the survivor’s resistance against the convict.

Fakologbon admitted to touching, physically assaulting, and tearing the victim’s underwear but claimed he did not rape her.

However, medical report confirmed injuries sustained by the victim during the ordeal.
