Tech giant, Google, on Monday revealed the results of its 2023 Year in Search for Nigeria, showcasing the year’s most popular searches, notable individuals, actors, musicians, and other subjects that captured the attention of Nigerians.

The annual analysis, Google’s Year in Search, not only unveils the top trending lists but also highlights global interests and curiosities.

In Nigeria, the 2023 results reflect a heightened interest in lifestyle, local politics, and prominent personalities such as Moyo Lawal, Peter Obi, and Oladipupo Oladimeji (Oladips), who claimed the top spots on the trending people’s list for 2023.

Claiming the first position in the top trending musicians category for 2023 is Asake, closely followed by singer Khaid and rapper Shallipopi. Asake’s “Lonely at the top” emerged as the most searched song, underlining Nigerians’ strong interest in entertainment this year.

This enthusiasm is evident in searches for “Gangs of Lagos,” “Shanty town,” and “Soso lyrics,” which topped the movies, video series, and lyrics categories, respectively.

Singer Mohbad, Yoruba actor Murphy Alabi, and actor-film producer Saint Obi, all of whom passed away this year, led the search list for losses. Mohbad also took the top spot in the category for the most searched Nigerian news topic in 2023.

Other top-searched questions like ‘Who is the winner of the 2023 presidential election?’ and ‘What is fuel subsidy?’ demonstrates Nigerians’ keen interest in political and economic affairs, utilizing Google Search to delve deeper into their interests in 2023.
