Asisat Oshoala joins Bay FC

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has bid an emotional farewell to Barcelona Femini after five remarkable years, confirming her move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Bay FC.

The Nigerian star completed a transfer on Thursday, signing a two-year deal with an option for an additional one year, reportedly for a fee of $162,000.

In an Instagram post, Oshoala expressed mixed emotions as she left the club where she has been a key player since 2019. Her time with Barcelona Femini, saw her contribute significantly to historic moments, including two UEFA Women’s Champions League triumphs in 2021 and 2023, along with four league titles, three Spanish Super Cups, and three Copa de la Reina victories.

A two-time Ballon D’or nominee, Oshoala made history as the first African woman to win the UEFA Champions League in 2021 and score in the Champions League final in 2019. Her goal-scoring prowess was evident in her record-setting season in 2022, where she was the joint top scorer in the league with 19 goals.

Reflecting on her departure, Oshoala expressed gratitude to her teammates, coaches, staff and fans, stating: “Barcelona Femini will always hold a special place in my heart.”

She emphasized that beyond trophies, the relationships formed during her time at the club were the most cherished.

Bay FC General Manager, Lucy Rushton welcomed Oshoala to the team, praising her quality experience and winning pedigree.

Rushton highlighted Oshoala’s top-class mentality, pace, and technical ability, predicting that she would be a significant asset to Bay FC.

Oshoala will occupy an international roster spot, pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.
