Delta govt agency warns residents against improper septic waste disposal

Government Agency Issues Stern Warning Against Discharging Toilet Wastes into Street Gutters in Warri/Effurun

Authorities of the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA) have cautioned house owners in Warri, Uvwie, and their surroundings against emptying their toilet wastes into the street gutters.

Failure to comply could lead to arrest and prosecution by a newly established Task Force and Mobile Court, WUEDA warns.

During an inspection of ongoing state government road and drainage projects on Wednesday at Odibo Street, the Director General of WUEDA, Mr. Godwin Ejinyere, expressed dismay at the improper disposal of septic wastes by residents.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the projects and warned of severe consequences for non-compliance.

Ejinyere emphasized the agency’s commitment to educating the public on the repercussions of damaging drains, announcing the imminent commencement of Mobile Court operations in the area. Additionally, he provided official contact numbers for reporting any contractor misconduct.

The Director General highlighted the Agency’s intention to conduct thorough inspections across neighborhoods, identifying houses with illegal connections of toilet pipes to open drains. Offenders will face legal action, including arrest and prosecution.

Expressing disappointment with the lack of preparedness by a contracting firm during the inspection, Prince Ejinyere demanded immediate rectification of technical errors and commencement of drain desilting to ensure project completion and road accessibility for commuters. He cautioned that repeated substandard performance might result in contractor blacklisting.

While commending the timely initiation of the project, the Director General urged other firms to expedite their work or risk losing contracts. Accompanying officials included WUEDA’s Director of Projects, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyeno, and the Chief Site Engineer, Obruche Okeme.

Upon completion, the drainage project will alleviate flood issues in Odibo Street and Bazunu Street, enhancing traffic flow in the area.
