FISU World Varsity Games: 3 UNILAG students to represent Nigeria in China

Three students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been selected by the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) to represent Nigeria at the 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games in Chengdu, China

Those selected are:

  • Ayuba Daniel Ikko-Allah, a 400-level student of the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science
  • Miss Kehinde Oreoluwa Oyeniyi, a 300-level student of the Department of Business Education, Faculty of Education
  • Sewekan Oluwasegun Thovoethin, a 300-level student of the Department of Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education.

The trio, who will represent Nigeria in table tennis and athletics had won gold medals in their respective sport categories – table tennis men single, table tennis female and 400m respectively during the NUGA Games hosted by the University of Lagos in 2022. They were selected following a thorough evaluation process.

The Ag. Director of Sports, UNILAG, Dr. Joseph Awoyinfa, has also been selected by NUGA to lead the team to the Games.

Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, congratulated Ayuba Daniel Ikko-Allah, Oyeniyi Kehinde Oreoluwa and Thovoethin Sewekan Oluwasegun on the successful selection to represent Nigeria in Chengdu 2021, while she looks forward to their grand return with gold medals for the country.

FISU World University Games, tagged ‘Chengdu 2021’ had initially been scheduled for the summer of 2021, but was rescheduled following the postponement of the Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020.

The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games set to hold between July 28 and August 8, 2023 will feature 18 sports and 269 medal events.
