How to Be a Healthier Woman

In this week’s edition of Iya Magazine health and fitness for women, we will be taking a look at tips for becoming a healthier woman. We only have one body, no replacements, and no second chances, which is why the way you treat it will determine what you will get. Do you want to be healthy? Read on for more health information for women. If you have been practising unhealthy habits as a woman, there is no better day to start than now. Let’s carry on, shall we:

1. Make sure you see your doctor

You need to understand that not everything is Malaria and typhoid fever, and self-medication is a recipe for disaster. Having a doctor who you consult to schedule blood pressure checks and other health checks is important. As a woman, if you cannot diagnose health problems early, you’re harbouring a silent killer. So, rather than going to the chemist and self-diagnosing, schedule a visit with your doctor.

2. Change your diet

As a woman, another thing you need to do is ensure that you eat healthily. You need to ensure that you cut down on unhealthy foods and eat more healthy foods to ensure that you’re not a classic case of “My money kill me.” Here are some of the best things you can incorporate into your diet:

  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Reduce your intake of sugary foods.
  • Ensure you have a balanced diet – most of us women take a lot of carbs, especially rice, and we claim that there’s no other food in Nigeria, but we really can do better.
  • Eat in smaller portions spread across the day.
  • Avoid consuming a lot of salt.

If, as a woman, you can be conscious of what you eat, you’re well on your way to being healthy.

3. Keep moving

I know this sounds like the Johnny Walker slogan, but this is serious business. If you cannot prioritise moving your body as a woman, things will go wrong. Think of it for a moment; your shoe gets damaged faster when you leave it lying there at home for a long time than when you put it on now and then. The same happens when you hardly move your body; it seems like a good life having everything done without moving a finger, but it’s not. Doctors advise that you spend at least 30 minutes exercising daily to keep your body fit and strong. You need it as a woman, so prioritise it today.

4. Make sleep a priority

I do not care how busy you think you are; if you do not prioritise sleep as a woman, you’re cutting your health down with every passing day. You take coffee, energy drinks, and even caffeinated drugs to stay awake when the body requires a lot of rest. Unfortunately, the need for rest keeps on piling up, and at some point, your body will stage a protest which will most likely be consequential to your health. So, make it a priority to get at least eight hours of sleep, and you will be just fine.

5. Learn to say “No”

You might not have expected this, but saying No is the healthy thing to do. It’s healthy for your body as well as your mind because it helps you pick your priorities and remain sane even in times of difficulties.

Bottom Line

As a woman, you need to prioritise living healthy if you want to stay long enough to experience all the good things that life has to offer. Remember, the only way to enjoy anything is to be healthy, and with these tips and so much more. So, until the next edition, we say, thrive and live a healthy life.
