Intermediary collects N200K from buyer, pays grandma N50K for three-month-old baby

A baby boy who was born out of wedlock in Nkwelle, Anambra State, has been reunited with his mother after he was reportedly sold by his grandmother for N50,000.

According to reports, the person who had brokered the deal between the buyer and the seller collected N200,000 from a woman who had expressed interest in buying the baby, while he allegedly paid the baby’s grandmother N50,000.

The mother of the baby, Ijeoma Nwosu, reported to the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare that her mother, Oluchukwu Nwosu, took away her baby shortly after his birth and had refused to tell her his whereabouts.

According to The PUNCH, the ministry, in collaboration with the state police command, launched an investigation and tracked down the grandmother and the buyer of the baby.

The grandmother confessed that she sold the baby to a woman named Evelyn from Uruagu Nnewi, who claimed to have paid N200,000 to an intermediary.
