A man described as Nollywood costumier and identified as Prince Onyenwere allegedly sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl on Sunday, January 28th, 2024.
The incident allegedly took place during a movie production in Asaba. According to an Instagram user with the username cutie_jullss, a group of crew members had lodged in a hotel for a movie production where the young girl was playing a role. At one point, she needed to change her outfit for the next scene. The director allegedly instructed the costumier, Prince, to provide the costume.
Eyewitnesses reported that Prince took the young girl to one of the rooms in the hotel for the outfit change. When the director noticed that they had taken too long to return, he sent someone to check up on them. Upon arrival, the person discovered that the door was locked from behind, and the girl was crying from inside.
Prince was asked to open the door but he allegedly refused. At this point, other crew members were allegedly alerted, and they had to forcibly open the door. Sadly, upon entering the room, they allegedly found the little girl crying and shivering.
Eyewitnesses reported that upon questioning, the girl said that after they entered the room, the costumier had asked her to undress and wear the next outfit. Then after she removed her clothes, he allegedly started touching her inappropriately. And when she resisted his advances, he allegedly pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. .
Other sources claimed that blood stains were seen on the floor and the crew members had beaten up Prince before he was handed over to the police for interrogation.
Reacting to the news, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Mr. Emeka Rollas Ejezie, commented that the association was waiting for the official statement from the police regarding the matter.
He also promised that if the suspect is found guilty, they will ensure that he is duly punished.
