Some Nigerians have briefly turned the Twitter handle of United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, into a complaint board.
The complaints ranged from their disagreement with America’s congratulatory message to President-elect Bola Tinubu, to Niger Delta issues and more.
Trouble started after Blinken tweeted about a newly signed bilateral relationship between the United States and Papua New Guinea.
Blinken had tweeted on Monday morning, “Pleased to join our Papua New Guinea partners to sign a Defense Cooperative Agreement that will enhance security cooperation, further strengthen our bilateral relationship, improve the capacity of the PNG Defense Force, and increase stability and security in the region.”
Earlier, he had tweeted, “Met PNG Prime Minister Marape at the U.S.-Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Port Moresby. We covered many topics, including the successful conclusion of the new Defense Cooperation Agreement. Our two countries are promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the Pacific region.”
However, instead of reacting to the post as appropriate, Nigerians seized the opportunity to leverage their concerns about their own country.
See the various reactions as tweeted at Blinken:

Please look into what is going on in the Nigeria’s middle belt. I still believe you’re an honest and decent man who’s not afraid of doing the right thing. You support and defend Ukraine, but you’re not paying attention to what is happening in Nigeria, even when the CIA updated u pic.twitter.com/Lw66WwAKoo
