Nigeriens took to the streets of Niamey on Friday to register their protest against President Bola Tinubu and ECOWAS unfavourable disposition towards the military regime that sacked former President Mohamed Bazoum.
ECOWAS on Sunday had issued a warning to the military junta which came into power through a coup.
The Nigerian president who is currently the leader of ECOWAS threatened to impose sanctions on Niger and gave the junta a week to relinquish or risk a forceful intervention.
However, Nigeriens have come out in protest, insulting President Tinubu in the process.
In videos circulating on social media, Nigeriens can be seen protesting with banners deliberately altering President Tinubu’s first name, Bola, while pictures of him in compromising positions were attached to the placards.
Meanwhile, former Nigerian military head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, is leading a delegation to hold talks with the new Nigerien government.
