Plateau assembly inaugurates 9 new members

The Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, has inaugurated nine out of the 16 members who won their cases at the Appeal Court.

Dewan, at a brief ceremony on Friday in Jos, explained that the nine members met the criteria to be sworn in, while the other seven did not.

The speaker also stated that the House of Assembly had been intact, and that there was no crisis, as was being wrongly portrayed in the media.

He stated that the inauguration was delayed because the house was following due process in order not to flout any law or laid down rules.

“Yesterday I was informed that nine of the 16 members met the criteria to be sworn in and today I swore them in. Everything has been going on smoothly in the assembly.

“We have extended the tenure of the Transition Implementation Committee in the local governments areas as requested by the executive.
