As bandits continue to terrorize the outskirts of Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the Federal University in Zamfara State has urged its students and those of them resident off-campus area of Damba, to move to safer locations.
The tertiary institution issued the directive on Sunday.
The university’s Information Officer, Umar Usman, said in a statement that the students should move to Gusau metropolis or Sabon Gida area, where armed security forces have secured the area.
The warning came after four students were kidnapped from their off-campus homes in Damba on Saturday.
However, all the four students were freed by the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji and Metro Joint Patrol (Eagle Eye).
Usman said that the students in Damba and other outskirts of Gusau were more exposed to bandits’ attacks, noting that this was the second time in less than a month that the terrorists would be attacking the university’s off-campus lodgings.
On September 21, bandits abducted 25 students and nine construction workers from the outskirts of Gusau. Twelve of them are still being held by the bandits, reports say.
