A 14-year-old girl, Desola Adeoye, resident of Shogunle in Oshodi area of Lagos State has reportedly committed suicide as a result of alleged torture she was subjected to by her father, Mr. Sunday Adeoye and the girl’s step mother.
This was disclosed by the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN).
Desola was alleged to have ingested insecticide for fear of being flogged by her father after her step mum reportedly threatened that her father will beat her mercilessly for coming back late from summer lesson.
The Network gathered that the fear of being beaten by her father prompted her to take her life by ingesting insecticide.
Report has it that Desola died in a private hospital, and that her father quickly retrieved her body back home in an attempt to hurriedly bury her to avoid questioning; but
Police officers from the Shogunle Police Station were said to have intercepted and stopped him.
It was gathered that the late Desola and her two sisters had regularly been subjected to physical assault and maltreatment from their father and step mother at the slightest wrongdoing, while efforts by the Shogunle Community Development Association in Oshodi (CDA) to caution the couple did not yield any meaningful result.
ACVPN said it has stepped into the matter, which has been formally reported at the Shogunle Police Station.
