A rain that started around 4am on Wednesday has caused severe flooding in several parts of Lagos, rendering major roads impassable and leading to significant traffic disruptions.
The Iyana-Oworo and Olopo Meji areas, leading to the Third Mainland Bridge, were particularly affected. The floodwaters submerged the road, causing gridlock and discomfort for road users.
An X user, tweeting anonymously as #JayNaijaTv, shared a video of the flooded area with the caption: “Iyana-Oworo, Olopo Meji area heading to 3rd Mainland Bridge this morning is completely flooded, causing long traffic that extends to Alapere.”
In addition, the Shadia Estate by the canal in Sholuyi Gbagada was heavily impacted, with most houses submerged due to the overflowing canal, which had become stagnant. The floodwaters spilled back onto the road and into homes, exacerbating the situation for residents.
Similarly, the Oshodi Bus Stop area on Agege Motor Road experienced severe flooding, with the entire area submerged. Commuters were seen taking refuge on the pedestrian bridge to escape the rising waters.
Authorities are urging residents and commuters to exercise caution and seek alternative routes where possible as efforts are underway to address the flooding and restore normalcy.
