Authorities of Warri South Council say they have dissolved youth organizations and development movement in Okere-Urhobo due to security concerns.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, December 5, the Executive Council of Warri South Local Government, led by Chairman Dr. Michael E. Tidi, announced the immediate dissolution of All Youth Organizations/Development Movement in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri.
The decision, aimed at preventing potential unrest, arises from a leadership conflict between the “Okere-Urhobo Development Movement” and “The Olodi Community Development Movement” within the Okere-Urhobo Kingdom.
Warri South Local Government’s Chief Security Officer, as conveyed through Secretary Mr. Joseph Oribioye, clarified that the dissolution was a result of the resolution reached during the Warri South Local Government Area Peace and Security Committee meeting held on November 29, 2023.
The statement emphasized that the chairmen and affected officers of the dissolved organizations are prohibited from representing themselves as officers of any related entities. It further directed security agencies to take decisive action against any youth who violates this directive.
Furthermore, the announcement highlighted the prohibition of any monetary transactions under the guise of these organizations, reminding citizens of the existing Delta State anti-development law. Any attempt to extort money under fictitious names is urged to be promptly reported to the Nigeria Police Force.
