Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the evacuation of persons living with mental health disorders from the streets to psychiatric hospitals for immediate medical attention.

Though not clear the number of the affected persons, sizable number of persons living with mental health disorders littered major streets in the Kano metropolis.

Fauziyya D. Sulaiman, the Senior Special Assistant,(SSA), on Vulnerable and Needy to the Governor in her verified Facebook timeline wrote that the action was a response to complaints about persons living with mental health disorders roaming streets of the metropolis and environs.

The Senior Special Assistant, SSA on Vulnerable and Needy lamented that among these vulnerable persons are women suspected of being molested.

Fauziyya D. Sulaiman did not mention the timeline for action, but it was however manifest that relevant authorities have been briefed on the governor’s marching order.

She wrote, “Following several complaints received by the Governor over the persons living with mental health disorder who are roaming streets in the metropolis and environs, some of them go about naked and in the process some of them are molested especially the females.
