Mile 2 interchange: LAMATA to compensate over 600 affected property owners

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) says over 600 Project Affected Persons (PAPs) will be compensated due to Mile 2 interchange project.

The Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akinajo noted that LAMATA had commenced implementation of the resettlement action plan for the project with the payment of compensation to the PAPs.

“The interchanges are being built at Mile 2 and Marina under the Lagos State Transport Master Plan Project (LSTMPP) Phase 1. More than 600 PAPs will be compensated around the Mile 2 area.

“The project, which aims to streamline Lagos transportation system by providing an integrated, multimodal transport system is being funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

“The initiative will see the construction of interchanges designed to integrate four modes of transportation, water, rail, bus and non-motorised transport into a single hub.

“This is to provide residents with a more efficient and interconnected travel experience,” she said.
Akinajo said the compensation payment came after several months of stakeholders’ engagement to ensure fair treatment for residents impacted by the construction.

She added that it was in line with the AFD’s environmental and social contractual requirements.

“This commitment demonstrates the project’s focus on both infrastructural development and community well-being,” she said. (NAN)
