Ogun student secures $3.5m scholarships to US, Canada, Qatar varsities

An immediate former student of The Ambassadors College, Ota (a Christian co-educational school) in Ogun State, has secured 14 scholarships into several universities in the United States.

Nine of the scholarships are full, covering tuition, accommodation, allowance, and all other student’s expenses.

The tertiary institutions offering him the full scholarships included Ivy League universities and other prestigious universities in the United States, Canada, and Qatar.

The student, 17-year-old Oluwafemi Ositade, was in the 2023 cohort of his immediate alma mater.

Oluwafemi performed exceptionally in the SAT where he achieved a perfect score in Mathematics (800/800), a near-perfect score of 760 out of 800 in reading and writing, and a CGPA of 4.0/4.0 from college, in addition to other achievements.

A Press statement released by the school, states, “Ositade received 14 scholarships from renowned institutions, nine of which are full-ride scholarships (covering tuition, accommodation, allowance, and all other student’s expenses)

“The awarding universities include: Harvard University, Brown University, Duke University, University of Toronto Lester B Pearson Scholarship, Wesleyan University, Carnegie Mellon University, Qatar, University of Miami, Howard University, Stetson University, Fisk University, University of Toronto Mississauga Campus, University of Toronto St. George Campus, University of Toronto Scarborough Campus and Drexel University.”

The scholarships amounted to $3,511,582, according to the information.

“Oluwafemi’s achievements underscore the plethora of opportunities available for Nigerian youths to thrive on the global academic stage.

“Hailing from Ogun State, a region renowned for producing numerous academic scholars and achievers, Oluwafemi has once again solidified and projected Ogun as the hub of academic champions. His remarkable success adds to the illustrious history of academic excellence associated with Ogun State.

“His academic prowess extends beyond standardized tests. In the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, with a score of 358, he ranked as the second best in Nigeria for the year 2023.

“Additionally, in the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, Oluwafemi’s results were among the highest in his school, boasting 8A1s and 1B2.

“It is also worthy of note that Oluwafemi has represented his school in lots of local and international competitions where he has also proven his academic prowess with many laurels won by himself and his schools.”

Oluwafemi loves Quantum Computing and Mathematics, and he intends to pursue a degree in Computational Physics.
